Homeschool has been around since America was a bunch of colonies. Long before colonies, villages, and towns were able to afford a teacher, kids learned the basics at home. As a side note, those classes we call home economics, or teen living…they were just called chores back in the day. Kids learned to read, write, and do basic math at home. They also learned how to cook, sew, clean and farm as a part of everyday life. We have a long tradition of learning at home.
If you are considering this as an option or supplement to your child’s education this year, the following sites may prove helpful.
Home Educators Association of Virginia
K12 (the site homebound students in VA use)
The Organization of Virginia Homeschoolers
Virginia Home School – Field Trip Ideas
Parallel Learning and Nanny Cooperative
Whatever you choose, this is the year to learn to rely on one another again. United we stand, divided we fall.
